Learning Languages can be made fun

So how many of you try to learn different languages?…

we learn them so we can understand or we’re just learning cause it’s fun. We might take months or just years to learn a language. We learn new languages cause it will benefit ourselves in communicating with others if we visit new countries.

I love learning languages, at first I didn’t like learning my own mother tongue ie. Malay but slowly I learn something and enjoy learning. I use to watch this Japanese cartoons like doraemon and loved the cartoons. Slowly I started watching anime like fairy tail, Pokémon, one punch man, Naruto though they are dubbed English. Now I needed to try something new, why don’t I watch the raw videos. So I started first by watching Japanese cartoons, though I enjoy but could not understand what it means, so what I did was I started watching them by subtitles and understood by following the subtitles, now I understand a word or two while watching, and also started watching movies too.

So learning languages is fun. So once I’m thorough with Japanese I want to learn another language like Spanish, mandarin or even Korean. So you know people might ask you why learn language, what benefit will you get by learning? And my answer would be just for fun, I love learning them. People were not happy especially my friends telling I’m just wasting time.

By learning the languages more words become complicated. Things become difficult, you see Japanese have two kinds of learning, one you have to speak formally and one you have to talk casually. So it creates boredom for me. So I installed this app called. “Hello pal” in which hundreds of different people from different countries come to meet and chat, so I wanted to know how can we communicate and in what perspective can we compare this languages. So I connected with some of these people to get to know about this language, so I met this girl Airi and wanted to know the method of learning. So she said don’t read the translation tool from Google try reading the subtitles from movies and shows and try to understand the words and phrases and start making conversations with others and that’s how you understand. So I met Marie , a 38 old mother so spoke to me in Espanol in return to teach her English. So she recommended me that I talk by audio messaging. I met this funny guy Emmanuel who is from Colombia. So what he does is when when he says hi , I would say:

Hi Emmanuel, how are you?

Now this guy doesn’t know how to use this Google translate so he copied mine and pasted to someone. When that guy replied he copied that and would reply me back with that guys message. So it’s quiet weird but it’s interesting in which it’s a conversation between two or more people without knowing about it so I would keep on typing and he would copy and then send that guys message. It’s ingenious but clever. So communicating with these people makes me understand as well as explore things by grammar, by idiom, where to put, where to not, everyone has this unique way how to learn but we come to a result. You see the ways of speaking and communicating we find ways to learn languages and somehow enjoy speaking to strangers, so I don’t care whether they are a man taking an identity of a girl or girl to man anyhow I learn something.

When learning I use words and sentences, use flash cards or chits of paper to understand. So I heard they use notes and watch shows, sometimes they cook by listening to recipes which are foreign .some use GPS in foreign language and sometimes end up lost, but that’s how to get fun learning.

When I was learning Japanese, I got bored learning the text and each word with different idioms and sentences. So I started reading manga comics which were Japanese and then read in English.First I didn’t get it I slowly I tried. So day by day, month by month I learn the language. So I didn’t learn from genius nor took any turions I interacted with people and made language fun as an activity.

So if you don’t like writing in a book time to time use Google translate and learn each word, tired of listening to teaching lessons, watch shows, movies and try to cope up the language or listen podcast or if you don’t want to communicate, go to the mirror and talk to yourself, and ask how are you and talk to your reflection as if it’s someone. Now that’s.. weird or talk to your imaginary friends. I do it and it helped.

So if you want to learn fluently, know these methods, So if you want to memorize you can but in a short term memory for few days. Or to learn fluently start learning from apps , next to learn a system. You know you want to learn it as you want to get a job abroad , practice every day atleast 15 mins , mostly when you wake up, or you learn by listening to talks, shows,etc. There’s so many things how you can learn either by podcast or just reading and listening to the language. I practice with a friend every time I am free or just watch some movie or anime. So if you want to learn so.. badly, first have patience . You have to learn for atleast 2–3 months. It’s hard but try to enjoy. It motivates us and that’s how I learn when I watch serials with mum when I was learning Hindi since I’m Sri Lankan. It took months, days, years so now I’m 75% fluent in Hindi. So we have to learn freely and deliberately. So this is the secret of learning and this is how you enjoy the language.

Now some of you think it’s nice learning and think why do I need to learn, I’m happy with my language. Well …you thought wrong. People, wake up !…

We are not living in world of make believe. We can’t just stay and continue our boring lives in same country, going places time to time. Get your butt up and travel the world. Speak to people, know their. Language, understand their culture , that’s enjoyment. Not staying in the same stupid old country doing stupid things, working tirelessly waiting for your retirement. That’s old news, travelling is the best and it’s meditation. So what you’re scared, we won’t live long but we have to strive and explore new things, that’s how you do it.

So if you don’t have language talent, give a try, so maybe you can enjoy the language and learn fluently. Maybe you can enjoy something than been a guy waiting what to do next. Just try…
